I’m new to Lightroom. On a Mac running Sierra.
Lightroom Classic CC latest (7.4) version

When I send a file to external editor (Photoshop) edit and save it shows as an edited file in the film strip.
So far so good.
I want to edit the RAW in Lightroom. When I do it doesn’t show an edited version in the film strip.
I’d like to edit the RAW in Lightroom in several different ways and have them all showing in the film strip so I can compare the results.

Any ideas. It’s driving me mad.
I could do this easily in Aperture but have decided to embrace Lightroom.
I’d rather not go back

I’ve checked the preferences. Reinstalled it..

The behaviour you are describing is correct... send the file to PS it is returned to lightroom as a PSD file (i.e rasterised). When you make adjustments to the raw file then those adjustments are stored in LR's catalogue (or external XMP file if you choose that option) and those adjustment are echoed in the film strip and grid views.

To have different 'edits' of your raw file the easiest way is to create a virtual copy, this takes up virtually no additional space, these can be compared very easily...

Thanks very much. Yes the Adjustments are shown in the film strip. But not the original.

BTW. How do I create a virtual copy.

Found it, thanks for your help....how do i replace tufts of hair in my scalp....

Also, if you open the history panel you can jump back and forth through your edits creating virtual copies at any point.

Virtual copies are a powerful LR function.
