I have a question about Lightroom's Graduated Filter. Is it possible to add it as a new layer rather than it effecting the whole image? The reason I ask is I have a picture with a mountain peak in it. I want to use the graduated filter on the sky but not the peak of the mountain. I really need to be able to add it to the sky and errase it from the parts of the mountain it effects.

There's no way to add layers in lightroom - you'd either have to make a journey to Photoshop or try and make do using the graduated filter and the adjustment brush. If you're careful you could probably get away with using those and changing the opacity of the brush...
 
Hi Andy a little long winded but I sometimes make selective changes using the adjustment brush. So a bit of work but works well!!
 
Can you add what you have done in the grad filter to the brush so that you can "paint" it in to the areas you want? I've never really used the adjustment brush so I'm not sure what it can do.
 
The adjustment brush works the same way as the graduated filter - only differently. You are correct in that you "paint" the changes to exposure etc onto the image. I'd suggest that you slide the slider to an extreme under or over exposure first so that you can see the difference happening in front of your eyes, then once complete readjust the exposure to get the effect you want. Another tip is to use the scroll button to alter the size of the brush. Bear in mind, if you haven't already done so - you can use the graduation filter several times at different angles, you don't just have to use it once.
