I've used Lightroom for a while, but have just learned the hard way to keep my image files organised using it rather than in windows explorer or the likes.

My folder structure was a total mess, so decided to set about reorganising it today - here's where I fell over, and am probably missing something obvious. Although moving folders is no problem, I can't work out how to move individual images between folders?

Can anyone tell me how to do this, as I feel like a right plonker now - the obvious thing would be to drag them from the grid view into the folder required, but it would appear you can't do that...

TIA

I've a lot to learn about LR, but any files I need swapping I add to selection with ctrl then right click and export-export to where I need em. Then delete em, just from LR.
Alternatively if special image are flagged these too can be exported on their own. :)

Seems like a bit of hassle just to move files, eh? Ah, well, here we go.... I've got a lot of 'exporting' to do methinks...

You can use good ol Drag and Drop. In the library module select the image(s) you want to move, then holding the mouse button down drag them to the folder you want them to go to in the left hand panel. You'll get a message asking you if you want to move the images. Click OK, the images are moved on the disk and Lightroom updates its database for the images.

If the folder you are dragging to is not visible simply drag the images to the top/bottom of the panel and the folders should scroll for you.

I've tried this obvious solution many times in the past, and have just tried it again... nope; no way; nothing moves in the way of individual files using drag n' drop between folders in grid view - can someone confirm that this should work, as I thought it somewhat strange that it never?

i have used the drag and drop before now, works no problem :)

not sure why it wouldnt work for you.

^It works for me too, so simple!

You have to click on the image itself in the grid, not the framing around the file.

Ha, simples.... jeez, why do they do these things to me? Time to get sorting in earnest... :D
