Hi all,

Quick (and probably thick) question.

If I'm using the new Lightroom 5 beta and DPP to edit my images - will they conflict with each other?

If/when the Lightroom beta expires, will I be able to recover the original RAW file or am I stuck with any changes I make in Lightroom?

Matt,

I had a quick read about LR 5 BETA earlier and Adobe suggest that users make duplicate catalogues. This suggests that there may be changes that will conflict with LR4 files so, just to be on the safe side, I would do as Adobe suggests mate.

Re the DPP/LR5 question, there is no info relating to DPP in the current change log so bare that in mind.

If you process your RAW image in DPP then LR will not be able to see any of the changes you made. It requires an XMP sidecar file to able to pickup changes made by other programs and from memory I don't think DPP will do this.

Lovely - thanks both. This is my first foray into Lightroom so it'll be interesting. Certainly more powerful than DPP!

Matt....

Also be aware that LR is an Image Library Management system and if you go this route you should choose to use it exclusively. If you try and manage your collection of images using different programs you'll get into a mess as they'll not talk to each other.
