Lightroom dilemma

I've been mulling this over for a while now. Whether to buy LR5 outright or do the cloud purchase thing.

The way I see it going is adobe potentially not releasing another disk based version so any upgrades etc in the future will need the cloud one, however £19 per month for just lightroom (no previous CS3!) does seem expensive ie £240 per year... Any thoughts?
 
If you just need Lightroom stick to the perpetual license model. No advantage, having the cloud version, for you.
 
I believe they will keep lightroom as a standalone package.

If they change that, I will move to aperture along with many a photographer, I'm sure.
 
Adobe have said they have no plans to move Lightroom from it's perpetual licence position.

That "Future versions of Lightroom will be made available via traditional perpetual licenses indefinitely."

If you look up the definition of indefinitely, it means "Not definite", especially:
a. Unclear; vague.
b. Lacking precise limits.
c. Uncertain; undecided.

So the implication is that Lightroom will remain a perpetually licensed product until Adobe decide otherwise.
 
Thanks for the input. I was sure they brought out a "photographer" lightroom & cs cloud for about £30 which I would have considered but now all I can find is the single app thing or discount combo for CS3 users. It's a really strange pricing strategy by adobe.

I think, the photography deal for cs3+ users, runs until December. Then they will announce the photography deal price for everyone else.

I was very lucky, managed to get the photography deal, without cs3 or newer. Basically mislead, by Adobe sales team, so when I complained to higher management they let me have the deal :cool:
 
Bizarrely after signing up to the Adobe PS CC single app deal, I was contacted by Adobe and I now have LR5 & Adobe CC for £8.95! Seems strange but I am very happy and now getting to grips with my new software!
