Anyone else downloaded the latest update yet?

"As long as your desktop has a multi-core CPU and at least 12GB of RAM, you should see improved speed for these things:

  • Import grid loading
  • Import and preview generation
  • Walking through images in the Loupe View
  • Rendering of adjustments in Develop
  • Merge operations of HDR/Panos
  • Export"
Colour me impressed, this is flying for me now!

Doing a a bit of reading and Adobe have mentioned that more performance improvements are on the way. Admittedly I have got a decent amount of RAM (16GB) but the rest of my machine is getting on a bit now (Sandybridge i5 2600k). However, despite the improvements that version 7 brought it was still sluggish in many places.
 
I bought Lightroom 5 and upgraded free to 6. Is this one only on a "cloud" and monthly payments?
 
Looks like I need to increase the memory in my Mac, only running 8Gb ram so not seeing much of an improvement.

Ditto but unfortuantely my Macbook has it soldered onto the motherboard so increasing it is not an option.

This is the one thing I hate about Macs nowadays, both ram and SSD can't be changed by the end user. What was so wrong when you could change it yourself apart from Apple not getting the overpriced costs of the upgrades?
 
A question for you guys that have gone over to LR Classic CC/v7.2

If you decide to stop your subscription........are you simply left with say v7.2 fully functional without the regular updates. Or does it default to a crippled version i.e. just Library and no Develop module?

And have you kept your perpetual license version with its catalogue as a fall back?

PS as a PSCS6 user I have little need for the PSCC that is bundled with the packages I see offered......or is there a LR Classic CC only available?

If you stop you can still use library,quick develop.export and print butnotthe full develop and map bits.no updates ,
 
I would alwys keep the pep licence and library as backup.no lr classic only.for that you need the new version that is cloud based only Lrcc

Is there a comparison list showing the difference between quick develop & full develop?
 
Not found one yet but if you download thenow only 7 day trial ofclassic you can see them.the quick develop is in the lirary mode as apposed to the develop mode.
Basically you get the main stuff like exposure wb highlights shadows sharpening blacks whites saturation .you have to press a key on the bottom 2 which gives you 2 extra functions
 
Is it "easy" to add memory to a comp? And what about O.A.P.'s? Anyway of increasing mine?
 
I reckon I’m going to have to upgrade my RAM as my feeling is my LR’s running slower since the update :rolleyes:
 
Im seeing a small improvement is some development actions and a big up tick during exports. Handy if you have 1000,s of time-lapse images... which i do

edit: forgot to say im running 32gb of ram.

I updated last night, seemed to be slightly smoother on my 8GB i7 laptop. It had been very sluggish last month for whatever reason, so it might just seem faster because of that. Afaik I can update to 16GB RAM, just never bothered.

I just came in here to find out how I can improve my editing performance..

Overclocked I7 6700k, 32gb RAM and Titan X Pascal video card - you'd think it would be awesome.. but it slows down as you use it, I have to restart lightroom to get it working quicker again.

I even tried importing to local SSD instead of external HDD, but I've been yet to find out how to make it perform at it's best.

I hope this update is the answer.. installing now

Yes, in previous version the really big problem for me was memory leaks: the longer the session (like 4-5 days), the slower LR would become, especially if exporting a big number of files, until getting to the point of freezing.
In this 7.2 version the memory leak problem has practically disappeared for me

I’m starting think I need to upgrade my RAM, unfortunately having a Mac Apple have made that a lot harder with the RAM located behind adhesive secured glass screen. Since the update to 7.2 Lightroom has really slowed down especially the sliders.

I think apple may have started some time back, to solder RAM straight into the motherboard. This allows them to save a small amount of money in fabrication and create a smaller motherboard. You may find that they will charge an awful lot of money for a RAM upgrade assuming it can be upgraded. :(

I think it’s the late 2013 21.5 inch Mac I have, it’s possible to get the RAM (not soldered) but taking the adhesive secured screen off would be a right pain before removing must of the internals to reach the RAM. I’m thinking if I wanted to upgrade the RAM I would be better selling it on and buying a 27 inch that can easily be upgraded (best option for the future) or going back to a PC.
