Is it possible?

As part of my belt and braces approach to backup I end up with a copy of my photo's folder on a pc at work. I have full admin rights etc so there's no issue.

I also have Lightroom Beta 3 on both my home and work pc. I was wondering if it would be possible to sync the Lightroom catalogue on both so I can do little bits at lunchtime?

Thanks in advance
Paul.

it's not the easiest thing to do, unless you have your images and catalogue on an external drive. You then simply direct LR on both machines to work from the external Hard Drive. probably be a bit slow.

The way you add images and corrections from say a laptop to a desktop machine is to export the laptop work as a catalogue. , you would also have to include the images as part of the export as well. Then Import the catalogue and images to the desktop. Not too bad over a gigabit network, but slow over a USB connection.

You could try saving the images you want to work on to CD/DVD. Import them onto you work computer. Make the adjustments, then export the catalogue, without "negatives" ( as Lightroom calls them.). Import the catalogue to your home computer. It's possible that the location of the two sets of images will be different. You'll see a "?" on the imported folder, right click and select "update folder location" from the menu.

Bit messy, but I can't think of any other way of doing it. Also remember unless both the monitors are calibrated, you may see a colour difference in the final result from either monitor

Thanks John, I'd hoped Version 3 may have had an easier option that I could not find :)

I guess I'll have to just export the 'current' project to make things a bit easier.

I used to run a lightroom cat from my portable hdd at home and at work, until they closed USB access because of some muppet downloading torrents :(

There wasn't a noticeable performance hit doing it that way.

I discovered the way to do this UNDER MACOS and posted it a while ago. It works because I use it now on three computers.
