Afternoon all,

Bit a complicated one this, bear with me!!

I have two machines - my PC and my laptop
My PC holds my main catalog of LR images - and is the most up to date
Both my PC and my Laptop hold the RAW files from a recent wedding
Today, I have worked on some of the photos on my laptop

If I click "export as catalog" from my laptop - wont it overwrite the catalog and settings on my PC catalog?

Thanks

yes, but you could export as catalog to another location and then import from catalog to the main PC one

I do this all the time between work and home PC. Export as catalogue on one pc, then import as catalogue on the other. That way you'll take all the metadata and changes, without affecting the other images.

Guys,

My PC and Laptop are not synced though.

The PC has a lot of processed photos, that arent processed on the laptop.
If I export the laptop catalog and import it onto the PC one - it will erase all my processing on my PC photos.

What I need to do is selectively export/import only the photos I changed today on my laptop, and import them into the PC catalog.

Any way of doing this?

Many thanks

Create a smart collection (Library menu->New Smart Collection...) and set it with edit date of today.

This will autopopulate the collection with edits done today(!). Select the photos and export as new catalogue.

Do the files have the same file names on the laptop and PC? If so, why not just copy the XMP sidecars to the PC? Make sure to save the metadata first. As long as you have made no edits to the same files already on the PC this should work. Alternatively, copy all the edited files to a new temporary folder on the PC (after syncing the metadata) and import them in situ. Once you are happy with the import, delete the old files and drag and drop the newer versions to the correct folder.

You sir are a legend :)
Problem sorted, many many thanks!
