Having a look around Lightroom 3 the other night I saw that the camera raw cache setting is 1GB. It looks like it may be possible to change this. But is it worth it? And if it is what is the opitum setting consider I have 16GB memory available, or is it off the spare space on the HDD?

Cheers

Cache is what's used on the HDD for temporary storage. Try and get the cache onto an SSD if at all possible.

Thanks Andy.

Have been thinking about getting a SSD to drop into the spare slot (replacing the HDD in there that I have not used yet) then reloading Lightroom and Photoshop Elements onto the SSD.

Is it better to put in the new drive then move all the photos onto it (using Lightroom off the primary drive) then re-install Lightroom on the SSD?

or

To move all the photo folder manually to the SSD off the primary drive and then reinstall Lightroom on the SSD?

Want to avoid having to go through all the photos and re-tagging them.

The tags are held in the Lightroom catalog. If you move the folders from outside lightroom, you have to "find missing files" which is generally quite easy if you only have a few top level points to move. If things are all over the place, it's easier to install on the SSD, and move the files from within lightroom. Just use the library module files tab as a glorified windows explorer...
