Lightroom bug or am I just being stupid?

OK....has anyone had this? Is it a bug or am I just missing something simple?

Just imported a load of new photos into Lightroom 4. When I click on the adjustment brush I don't get a brush. Instead I get the magnifying glass. Other tools such as crop work. The only other thing I've found which doesn't work is the sharpening tool. I hold down ALT and it doesn't mask properly,

I've tried even restarting the whole machine and it seems to affect all photos in my catalog.

Any ideas!?!?!?!?

I just started with is the other day and had the same trouble, it doesn't seem very intuitive to me
I figured it was user error and that I need to dig out some video tutorials!

Ahhh, fixed it. It must be a bug. I fiddled with it and made my brush size larger. Then it seemed to work again. Most strange that the bug remained after a reboot though.

Not really, if its a bug in the application it's not going to disappear with a reboot...unless its to do with a clash with another application, which on reboot is then not running, so then it would be coincidentally fixed.
Rebooting will only help the operating system if it gets in a tizz
