Hi all. I have just installed Lightroom, but I'm totally lost already lol.

Is there a guide somewhere for total beginners? I'm unsure how to bring my images in. One video I watched on youtube said to copy your entire image folder over so the raw files can be converted to .dng?

Hi

A search on the web should provide you with more than enough tutorials. If you prefer reading from a book I would suggest either

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Book:: The Complete Guide for Photographers by Martin Evening

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) by Scott Kelby

Rich

adobe.tv

Julianne Kosts videos.

thanks all for the replies. I have found lots of useful tutorials so far and I think I will be able to grasp some of the simple functions fairly quickly but I haven't found a good one on how to start out. I'm just confused about how to initially load my images into the libraries?

You can download the free Kindle sample of the Scott Kelby book mentioned above and the chapter in the free sample should be enough to get you started with importing (it goes through it step by step).

[If, like me, you don't have a kindle, there is a free Kindle app for iphone/ ipad/ ipod and android and also one for a PC/Mac]

Just click on the 'Send Sample Now' button on the book page once you have installed the app and linked it to your amazon account: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...K&linkCode=shr&tag=1567&qid=1349997649&sr=8-2

It was enough to get me started but then I ended up buying a used copy of the book anyway as I was lost when it came to the develop part. :)

There are quite a few Lightroom books where you can get a free sample to 'try before you buy' but I found the Kelby one by far the most logical and easy to follow. (Shame about the dreadful attempts at 'humor' in the introductions though!) :gag: Some of the other books left me more confused than when I started though, so I was glad that I had the free samples and didn't waste money buying the book.

Your local library should have some Lightroom books too (I prefer a book rather than a Kindle or online resources so I can have LR open on my PC and the book open in front of me and work through it that way.

Further to my earlier post, I would say that Julianne Kost at Adobe TV is (or certainly could be) your friend. Clear, straightforward and thorough - plus free.

Anthony.

As mentioned already, I'd definitely recommend getting the Scott Kelby book £16 paperback which I have. Step by step from the 'get go' as they say over there.I also agree with Mark re. the attempt at humour,he could do without all that which appears in his books. I'd love to meet his wife..she's clearly a fantastic women Lol.

It's important to get the Import right, from the start .I'd strongly advise that you just take a few photos to start with and get to grips with the Import procedure,it's vital that you have a good Library from the start. It's also vital to use the keywording box too. If all your photos are of the same subject then add the keyword before import and it (they) will attach. I add several.I went to Myrtle Avenue (Heathrow) recently. All my photos had 'Civil Aircraft, Heathrow, Myrtle Avenue. etc. then I added the the type of plane, the Carrier-eg. BA, Virgin etc.for each photo.

Lightroom 4.2 is a great software programme especially for cataloguing.
