Lightroom as raw developer

As I tend to shoot most of my pictures in Raw, I am looking into investing in a good workflow and developer program. I am currently trying Lightroom and I rather like it.

I like the way that all pictures can be imported at once and similar settings can be copied to pictures.

But before I buy a registered version, I would like to hear other experiences. Are there any other programs that offer more efficiency? Any disadvantages to LR that I haven't discovered yet?

I use Lightroom, I tried Aperture when v2.0 of both programs came out, but preferred Lightroom. The other option is the DPP software that would have come with your camera, have you tried that?
 
I use LR and import everything into it converting into DNG files as it does so.
 
LR2 for me, does what it says on the tin and is good at it, add on Nik's software plugins and you have all you need. I have even taken to making my own presets and this cuts down processing time too.
 
Yep, LR here too. Very good but it does get slow once you catalog gets big. If you're going for it I'd advise you work out how you want to organise your images, and have multiple catalogs if you're planning on have more than a few tens of thousands of images.
 
LR2 for me also. I have been using it for over a year and still find new ways of using it. I have downloaded and bought some presets plus designed some of my own. I also use Silver effex Pro for my B&W which is superb!

Lightroom is a wonderful programme to use and will make your images really shine!
 
Another vote for LR2

Been using LR for a couple of years and reckon I'm still only scratching the surface in terms of features / functionality. There is so much that you can do, and do it with such ease. I still use CS3 to further edit my images.
 
Another fan of LRoom here. I have heard a few people mention PhotoMechanic as an import and sort tool prior to LR but I've not tried it myself yet.
ps - on LR, have you watched the LR TV channel tutorials? They're the nuts, so if you haven't then you may want to give them a go.

I use LR2 too... but IMHO it requires discipline to get the most from it - discipline that I'm not sure I have in terms of tagging and organising. I need to start afresh, but will wait for LR3.
 
Hi Vicky, I am also looking at purchasing Lightroom and presently using the free download of version 2. However I think I will wait until version 3 is released and purchase the latest version, dependant upon price when it is released.
 
only thing i've got against LR is that it's not as sharp as the nikon equivalent, however you're using canon so it may not be an issue :)

I agree on the Nikon front. The best developer for Canon that I have seen is Capture One, (excellent for Nikon too) but it has no cataloging.
 
Thanks all, I think indeed that I will follow Gordon and just wait until version 3 is released. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that the link to PSE is not optimal. And for two photoprocessing programs from the same provider, I would have expected better.

Then again, the workflow is amazing, filing, importing en exporting is superb!
 
it's two different generations of kit though, ones professionally orientated and the other isn't :)
