Hello

A quick Question: When you choose delete from disk in lightroom does it or is it meant to delete it permanently from the hard drive??

Matt

It will usually move it to the trash. Unless it is on an external disk, then it may go straight away.

Delete from Disk moves the file to the recycle bin.

Remove just removes the file from Lightroom

That's what I thought! I have run out of disk space on my HDD and needed to sort the wheat from the chaff.. however after deleting lots of files using remove from hard drive I don't seem to have freed up any space on HDD!!

Any idea's

Sounds like you have "removed" files from lightroom's catalogue, which means they are still sitting on your HDD, just that Lightroom is ignoring them. You need to delete from disk (which shifts them to trash which you can then empty).

Or . . Even deleted ones will show up as eaten hard drive space if still in the recycle bin.:)

bloody hell , talk about hassle..

No checked that..

As above, delete from disk sends the file to the recycle bin. When you've emptied the recycle bin, it will change the space available, but in my pc settings this seems to show in increments of 1GB, so if it's a small amount of space freed it won't necessarily show a change.

remember too, if you're viewing your pics in a collection when you delete them, you won't get the option. Deleting from a 'collection view' will only remove them from lightroom. To delete from the 'collection view', use the keyboard shortcut, CMD-ALT-SHIFT-BACKSPACE.
Then you get the option to delete from disk, which moves them to the trash.
