Lightroom 6 - any idea when its due out?

Thinking I will not bother with 5 and will go straight to 6, if it does not end up as cloud only. Anyone see any problems with my waiting?

I don't think there will be a 6 - it will probably be CC. It will be along the same lines as PS CS6, eventually there will be no more upgrades except on the cloud.

Cannot recall exactly what Adobe were quoted as saying but I thought they had committed to maintaining LR as perpetual license as well CC..................personally I hope so :)

Yup, Adobe have specifically stated that LR6 will not be cloud-only and that they have no plans to make future versions of LR thus restricted.
Q. Will Lightroom become a subscription only offering after Lightroom 5?

A. Future versions of Lightroom will be made available via traditional perpetual licenses indefinitely.

Of course, that's not going to stop the paranoid or the Adobe-haters from posting their FUD at every opportunity.

Interesting, and good news for those who want the non-cloud version. I am perfectly happy with the PS and LR CC option so doesn't matter to me.

As to whether the OP should wait or not, depends on how much use you would get from it. If you were to buy LR5 and LR6 came out shortly afterwards I would have thought you would get an automatic upgrade. If it isn't going to be for a while then how long are you prepared to wait. There may not be any great benefits in the upgrade in which case you might have a while to wait for very little. I used to upgrade alternate versions and didn't feel I was missing out.

To the OP

I suppose it depends what you are waiting for because any speculation as to what Adobe will see fit to add to improve the program with the step change from v5 to v6 is just that speculation................no different to folk talking about the Canon 7D MkII.

If v5 does what you want but it if it does not just sit it out and see if v6 brings what you want to the party................there will if history is anything to go be RC for the user base to try and for sure all Beta testers have signed NDA's so do not expect anything resembling "qualified" information until the RC releases!

So does v5.4 offer you what you wish to start using now or not???
