Hi all,

I'm a regular Photoshop user, but far from being an expert. As I'm a Creative Cloud subscriber, I also have Lightroom and know it's a really great tool to use, but I struggle so much with it. The gui seems cluttered and I just cannot get my head around the workflow or correct/best way to use the app. I feel like I'm missing out

Do any of you know of any noob friendly tutorials out there that will go through this please? I've seen loads that show you how to use specific tools and features, but nothing that takes you through the actual process of using it.

Thank you kindly ;)

I learned through the Anthony Morganti video series on Youtube. he explains what each function does and how it can be used, though he's actually colour blind, and this sometimes shows in the gaudiness of his images.

I use LR with the right hand control sections minimised except for the one I'm working in, as this seems to make things less cluttered. My normal workflow in the develop module would be first lens corrections, then detail, the basic development section and then any tweaks & masking/dust removal.

I ended up with a book, because I found I needed access to the instructions while I was trying to learn to use Lightroom and I only had one computer.

If you think the UI of Lightroom is too cluttered you are probably running it with all the menus open, which does look confusing, and results in much scrolling up and down.
Try running LR with the menus in "solo" mode, which collapses the unused menus when you are not using them.
Just right click on the menu area and select "solo" mode from the options.

For a good grounding on LR workflow I would highly recommend the Lightroom tutorials by Julieanne Kost on the Adobe TV website.

I have learned more about Lightroom in the last 24hrs based on replies in this thread than I have in the last few months feeling frustrated with the app. I now have a working catalogue that I actually understand and am beginning to work with. The Library and Develop modules are far less scary and intimidating and some of my images are looking presentable after playing around for several hours with things.

Thank you muchly for all the help, I'm getting there and finally enjoying using Lightroom! :runaway:
