Lightroom 5 problem

I've been on Lightroom for a few hours, using the adjustment tool. I don't seem to be able to use it now.

I create a new brush, select a setting. I brush it on the image and the brush seems to darken all the time. But when I press Enter it seems to change it to a lighter colour.

I don't understand why it's doing this?

Oops. I've just figured it out. I pressed Shift+O to change the masking colour.
