Hello ... Being keen to improve the quality of my mono conversions and processing skills generally, I've asked Santa to bring me the Nik software package which includes Silver Effex ... Hubby seems adamant that it won't "talk" (his word) to Lightroom 5 or Elements. I guess the idea would be to do raw conversions with the Canon or Lightroom packages and mono conversions etc on the Nik packages. Hope that makes some sort of sense? Can anyone confirm that this is perfectly feasible. I don't see why not Andes art he fuss is all about. Many thanks.

Yes - I'm using NIK with Lightroom and can confirm it operates as described by fabs.
When you pass the image to NIK you have the option of editing the original, a copy or a copy with Lightroom adjustments.
Of course, once you pass the image to NIK it becomes a tiff and remains that way, so I do all my raw adjustments first and choose "Edit copy with Lightroom adjustments."
When finished you go back to Lightroom but you are no longer working with a raw file but the tiff generated by NIK.

Hi There, Can you please help. I am using Lightroom 5 and am looking at using NIK Software Collection. I have seen a number of tutorials on Youtube but can find out the answer to this question: - Can I use Lightroom sharpening in the "Detail" tab (RAW Sharpening) and then NIK Output Sharpening. Or should I forget Lightroom sharpening and migrate to NIK for all sharpening

You can use LR sharpening as you describe or, if you want you can input or output sharpen with Nik. Whichever you choose just stick with it and develop your own workflow. For me I have the Nik suite but have yet to use Sharpen apart from a quick play.

With Lightroom, right click on the image, select "Edit in" and a list of Nik efex options appears. Do your conversion, save and you're back in Lightroom.Seamless integration. :)

As Marc says but if you're using the HDR Efex then select your shots and right click and select export > HDR Efex Pro

Ah, so that's where the little b****r lives. I've been editing in photoshop to use the plug in there.
Yep, took me a few frustrating attempts to find it !!
