An upgrade costs about £55 if you have any earlier version or can purchase a cheap one somewhere.

Otherwise you might be eligible for an academic version.

For which you need a (grand)child and a recent document from their school showing the school's name and child's name. Should be easy for most prospective purchasers.

Mmmm,do you think this would work for other purchases with a five year old just starting school?
 
It's always good for them to learn new things from an early age...
 
Often the educational/academic discounted version will not be the most up to date. Certainly just checking the place I can buy s/w from shows LR 4 and not 5.
 
Adobe themselves are currently offering a discount on LR5.

I don't know if the discount code is personalised though as I got it via an email to me from them.
