Lightroom 4 update problem

Last night I did the update for Lightroom 4 and was unable to upload pics afterwards. I'm using a MacBook Pro and fortunately I have time machine installed. I was able to go back to a date before I updated it and it worked just fine. I will be the first to admit that I know nothing about computers but I never have had a problem with updating before. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Did you update to LR5 or LR4.4? If 4.4 did you update via LR or did you download the dmg file and use that for the update.

I downloaded the dmg file for 4.4 update and it worked fine.

I will probably have my computer friend do it for me. I really don't know anything about computers.
