Is it worth upgrading from Lightroom 4 to 5? Are the differences worth the £100. Is it possible to get an upgrade from 4 to 5?

Radial filter is nice, as is the coverage of more camera and lens profiles. Other than that, if you're not sure it probably isn't.

As has been said in your other thread, you can upgrade from LR4 to 5 for £57 from Adobe, and may well find it cheaper elsewhere.

Is it worth while? Well obviously that depends on your usage, and perceived value for money.

For me it was. I regularly use: the radial filter, automatic perspective correction, smart previews, new flexible healing brush amongst a few other less essential (for me) additions.

thanks guys. This was mainly prompted by me not having the Nikon 80-400 VR profile in lightroom 4.

I found that LR5 was dramatically faster than LR4.
That's interesting... I'd read a few times that LR4 was typically a bit quicker than 5.

There's always the free trial (through CC)... not sure how easy it is to roll forward/back but worst case you can do a system image and then restore back after you've played around for a bit?

Lr4 and 5 install alongside each other, so you can compare directly...

Not today because v6 has to be getting close to release.
They were saying that when 5.4 was around and since then we've had 5.5 and 5.6.
The good thing about the release of v6 is that v5 will then drop in price.
If whatever improvements that are introduced in v6 are of no interest, then v5 is still very capable, and for me, does what I need in terms of raw development.
Plus of course, once you have stepped on the ladder, it's cheaper to upgrade to the next version.

LR 6 Beta is due out next month with the full release in March 2015

One key feature is said to be the processing speeds with 6.0 running at 70-100% faster than 5.5 which if correct will be a great improvement but will also depend on processor/memory configurations too.

There have been "LR6 will be released tomorrow" rumours since June, when 5.5 was released, and since then we have also had 5.6.
I'd be interested to know where that information comes from, since other than the usual rubbish rumours sites, I can find no reference to either a beta or full release.
I've never found any version of LR to be slow (v4 onwards), although I understand some people have speed problems, which are usually hardware related.
If your configuration results in slow running now, it's also likely to be slow with v6.0 when it arrives.
