Im not sure if this has been covered so please point me in the right direction if it has.

I upgraded from 3 to 4 and Im running 3.6 on my laptop as I havent got around to upgrading. On my main pc which is a fast pc lightroom 4 is a joke. for example if I play music whilst editing I can hear the music stutter. using the wacom makes it worse but its bad enough without, everything is slow.
I also have to paste setting twice as most of the time it ignores me the first time.

Im due to do a full format and reinstall but im seriously considering not using lightroom anymore. 3 wasnt slow, I dont see why I should go back when I paif for the upgrade.

Anyone shed any light on why lightroom is so slow, searching the net comes back with some people having the problem others not having it.

My catalogs arent large as I only use lightroom as a quick edit tool not for cataloging.

4 was a bit slow when running 4gb having upped to 6gb ram it seems a lot faster.

What spec is your Pc and what is aee you running?

Pc speed isnt the issue at all, I run 3d software and games and dont get any issues. I get a pause when Im using the crop tool, it makes it a pain to edit a few hundred pictures from a wedding or event.

Ive purged everything I can as well, Im really hoping a format and reinstall will sort it out but cant do that until Ive finished my current games contract as there is just to much to set up again work wise.

Wow... Should not be an issue with that spec. I am using a core 2 duo and did have the same issue when using cropping or heal tool but upping the RAM has helped in my case.

Sorry cannot be of any help.

As I have said before, I run LR4 with 4gb RAM with an i7 processor with no issues at all. The difference is that I did not upgrade from an earlier version of LR. Nearly (I stress nearly) all who have reported speed problems have upgraded. I can't suggest a solution as I am not a computer type, but I point this out as something to bear in mind.

Over to the computer whizkids ...

It needs to recreate the catalogue when you upgrade and people were seeing this as an issue. You could either start a new catalogue or leave it running overnight to do its stuff to see if that cures it.

I removed all catalogs and only have 4 new ones now.

Thanks to anyone throwing ideas over btw, I may have missed something.

My laptop which is a core 2 with 3gb ram and lightroom 3.6 far out performs my main machine running lightroom 4

On my one I did a new install.

Thought I would post a bit of an update, most of the problem was sorted by updating my wacom intuos 4 drivers. There was still a little slow down but no where near as bad.
