lightroom 4, problem exporting

I'm not sure what I did but it has happened randomly more than once. I go to export a picture to a folder and the wrong picture ends up being exported. It's like the picture I'm trying to export some how got mixed up with another. I tried to rename the picture on export but that did not work. I hope I have explained myself well enough. I am by no means a computer guy. Thanks for your help.
 
Shayne, could you have accidentally clicked on the wrong image (or used an arrow key to move the selection - I am guilty of this :()? Was it when just trying export one image or a number? If it's one image, double click the image so it fills the work area then export.
 
Paul thanks for the help. I am sure I was on the correct image, actually I tried to export it several times and each time it exported an image that was not even near the target image. I really don't know much about this but it seems as thought the images have some how got their names/I.d's crossed. That is why I tried to rename it on export but didn't have any luck with that method either.
 
you havent changed any of the underlying folder or file structure/names etc outside of LR?

do the images being exported have the same file names as the intended ones? i.e. are they duplicated file names?

I don't know how it happened but it seems as though LR is confusing pics. I tried one more time and it exported a completely different pic this time. I ask the forum at Adobe and the suggested making a virtual copy. That did the trick, u was able to export it then.
