Lightroom 4 presets

I've been downloading and playing around with presets and found loads i like. most of my pictures have been jpeg and when i apply the preset it doesn't look right, as it was made for raw. how do i sort it out?

What do you mean doesn't look right? Lightroom treats jpeg and raw essentially the same as far as presets are concerned, are you sure the presets are for LR4 and not 3? they might not work properly as they use a different process version.

You can ajust any of the sliders after applying the presets to tone it down or make it stronger say, what you have to do then is save that as a new preset (you can't really alter the original preset itself) it'll then appear in your user presets.
