Lightroom 4 Plugins

Well, what I mean by that is Lightroom 6 has these features built in. You can buy it as a standalone product, so that's one obvious choice without having to go to creative cloud.

I am aware of that, but not looking to get lightroom 6 - you can get plugins that work well with 4 so that's what I'm trying to get ideas on

Can you? You don't appear to know of any.

HDR - Photomatix but for the cost you may as well upgrade LR and get raw HDR. NIK is free, but with no more development and Google pulling the plug who knows how long that will last. There are a few others but all at a cost so again, you may as well update LR.

Panorama - None that I know of.

There is Enfuse and GIMP. HDR - so I do know of some, however, I am more looking for the Panorama aspect. I don't really want to fork out on LR6 at the moment so looking for alternatives.

Adobe monthly fee for PS and LR6 is too much for the amount I use it.

You can avoid the monthly fee still with a one-off purchase. Don't know how long for. You would get a *lot* of features on top of panorama and HDR with an upgrade to LR6.

I've used gimp and Hugin for panoramas and it's extremely clunky and surprisingly hard to get good results. Perhaps I just didn't have the patience. LR6 makes this easy. Canon has a photo stitch took that comes with canon SLRs too. That's a little easier to use but actually I think the results weren't as good as Hugin. Now, I just use the google Camera app on Android...

I used Enfuse a couple of times, it's okay, but not great. I know of GIMP as a pixel editor but having never used it I had no idea it had HDR facilities.

As you have LR4 you should be able to upgrade to LR6 perpetual licence which is a one off cost.

There is an upgrade price if you already have LR. I upgraded via the adobe website from LR4 to LR6 for £59 so you don't have to pay the full price if you already have a copy of LR (note that you can't sell on your copy of LR4 as it's still needed for the LR6 if you paid the upgrade price).

Thanks, didn't know they had a special upgrade price. Might look in to that at some point.

Yep adobe don't make it easy to find, it's as if adobe want to move people to CC ;)

You need to change full license to upgrade license. It doesn't always show in the drop down menu so you may need to click buy on the full license to be able to see the upgrade option (don fill in the email until you get the upgrade option).

You can read how to do it here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/creative-cloud/help/download-install-single-app-Lightroom-6.html

You can buy the upgrade here for £64.66 (they raised their prices recently, I upgrade about 2 years ago).

Might be time for me to grab that while I still can, too, at that price. In the past I've left it to camera hardware upgrades to drive lightroom upgrades but this is my last chance to get a standalone version, ever.

Because that's what Adobe have stated. It's CC or nowt from here on in.
Where have Adobe said that, and is it official?

A little while ago Adobe were saying that the stand-alone version of Lightroom would be available "indefinitely."

I did have another dig around and can find nothing definitive on either side, only conjecture, but being "available indefinitely" doesn't necessarily equal there being a constant stream of updates even. And this comment came via unofficial channels and appears to be rather like trusting a Google employee's comments on women in programming, it's got about as much management support.

All this is just a company policy of course, they could change their mind at any moment, but look around they are pushing people to CC at every turn, to the point where even buying a LR standalone requires you to dig very deep into their online store.

If there is going to be a LR7 standalone then it should be due very soon. But the features it contains have probably already been released to LR CC edition so anyone already on subscription won't touch it.

It's really only us light users want a standalone copy, and that's because we don't upgrade cameras every year and don't use the thing more than six or ten times a year.
