I've recently upgraded to Lightroom 4 from version 2 - and am waiting for the disc to arrive in the post.

In the meantime I've downloaded 4 as a 'trial version' - and have come across a problem that I can't see where I'm going wrong.

When I right click on a file after doing some lightroom edits, and then wanting to edit further in photshop, I select 'Edit in> Photoshop'.

In V2 - I used to get the choice of how I wanted it - with or without adjustments.

In V4 - it just opens straight into PS - without the adjustments I've made.

I want the adjusted file to go into PS - and can't see it in any of the settings..

What tweak do I need to make to be able to edit the LR image with adjustments in PS? Thanks :)

I just fired up my beta of LR4 and tried to follow your process and I get a menu with 3 options when I select Edit in PS,
Edit a copy with LR adjustments
Edit a Copy
and
Edit original

When I try to use edit with LR adjustments I get a message saying PS may require Camera Raw 7, which as far as I know isn't out yet, it may be now though.

This could be the problem, but I dont know why you don't get the first popup, what version of PS do you have? This may have something to do with it.
Its looks like ACR 6.7 RC has been released, might help.

Yes that's what I got in LR 2 - but not in 4.

I'm using PS CS5 Extended.. And have checked it's up to date... Just updated it to be sure..

Can't see why I'm not getting that same menu you're getting.. That I used to get on 2 - but not now on 4... Hmmm...

Thanks for checking for me!!

Thanks Richard - I've searched for, and installed ACR 6.7 - and although I still don't the choices I did before, now when I 'Edit in>PS' the file that opens does indeed include my edits. So it's resolved my immediate needs - still not sure how to the the actual options back though.

I'll wait until my disc arrives, and see if the install makes any difference - but for now your advice has prevented me from hitting my head against the wall any more... Thank you :)

I noticed last night that when selecting edit in Elements, nothing happens.

You could try manually adding PS as an alternative external editor, see if that gives you the choice.

That's what I did. I'll spend some more time on it over the next few days.

I suggest you to first of all edit in lighroom your shot with basic adjustment; should be enough as is really a powerful tool and if you really can't set thing there I think is better delete your shot.
Usually I need just Lighroom version 3.1

Lightroom is nice but the way of photo management with all that catalogs and temporary groups of photos can be really dangerous if you do not understand fully the idea. A pc crash can also destroy easily the catalog file.

Can be useful save your work FROM LIGHTROOM as DNG format that is the DIGITAL NEGATIVE NON PROPRIETARY OPEN SOURCE format of Adobe that every software reading .raw files can open and modify easily.

Once you have done that you can simply open the DNG files in Photoshop whatever last version CS4 or CS5.

I prefer to use the "Edit in..." option, with a TIFF file, as a DNG file would open in ACR, if you have already done all of the basic processing in Lightroom, why go to ACR?

Using the :Edit in..." option also add the resultant file to your catalog.

This is emphasis the need for a decent backup regime; for the catalogue, for previews and all the images.

Anthony.

This is the point.

Must always remember to save NOT ONLY the raw files but also all the lightroom catalog files otherwise all the job done in lightroom will be gone!!

Saving in DNG can be also one more way to avoid the problem

The thing here is that Lightroom has purposefully added a 'edit in Photoshop' function as they know lots of people have this method in their workflow. The problem is is that they have not updated this function to incorporate the new tool set they have in Lightroom 4. Hopefully they will solve this with their next updates

Hi ArtphotoasiA
Unfortunately the bold part isn't true, there are a few applications that don't work with DNG format, Capture NX being one.

I quite like the idea of dng, and would almost certainly use it if the camera shot in dng, but the extra time in processing and potential of losing information from the original file means i'm not there yet!
