Lightroom 4 and fairly old iMac

My iMac has been happily running Lightroom 3 for a good while now. Since I've changed camera to a Nikon D7100, LR3 won't open the RAW files and can't be updated to do so, (afaik.)

Lightroom 5 is beyond the capabilities of my iMac but LR4 might just sneak under the bar.

The Mac is an 3.06 i3 with 4GB.

Anyone have any success with LR4 on a similar spec?

The trial of LR4 seems to have vanished off Adobe's site so I can't try before I buy and, due to a recent house move, buying any new hardware is out of the question for a good while yet.

Any advice welcome. :)

Can you upgrade the memory? That will help generally.

Also try aperture and see if that opens the raw files. I think Nikon do their own conversion software too so that is worth a go. Does mean changing workflow a bit.

LR4 and 5 use about the same amount of resources. I can get both to run on my old 3,1MBP with 4GB, but it's not very nice with big files. Upgrade the RAM first of all or you may consider going shopping.

LR must be really broken on a Mac if you consistently need more than 2.5G. It just doesn't use more than that on a PC....
