Does Lightroom change the bit depth in any way of my 12 bit NEF (or any) raw files when importing. I can see an option for exporting TIFF files etc., but wondered about the above..have done a search and can't find anything.

I don't believe so.

By the way, LR 4.3 is available and it is worth considering updating with this free point increment.

I would think it converts them to 16 bits when it converts them to Adobe RGB, ProPhoto RGB, or sRGB colour space, but I don't know how it stores them internally. It can certainly convert them to 16 bits if you export them as TIFF, PSD, or DNG.
