Find a student to buy it for you, then it's £70!

Where do you get the student discount to make it £70?

My wife is a student, with an NUS card, however she isnt studying anything to do with photography.

Has anyone got anything on a student package that doesnt study photography and had any problems?

Yup, no problem what you study. Even works for staff in education, which is how I got my copies.

2 years ago I studied Media in college and helped my friend buy his CAD software and also Logic for his mac. They don't ask questions!

Just be careful, if you fall outside of the license rules then it is the same as just downloading and running an illegal copy. The student is the only one who can use the software as it is licensed to them, not the PC etc.

But the point is, my wife is studying finance, can she get it. Apparently you have to apply for the licence code from adobe? is that the same for all student programmes?

i bought the student version by accident off amazon when reading box it seems very serious about you being a MEDIA student of somesort or teacher anyways im not risking it its going back to amazon :D

Taken from the link in my post above:

Who may purchase and use Adobe Student and Teacher Editions?

The following individuals are eligible to purchase Adobe Student and Teacher Editions:

University and college students — students enrolled at a higher education institution defined as an accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two years of full-time study

So if she wants a license for her to use and the uni/college she is at meets the requirements she is fine.... doesn't help if you need to use it though.

Most of the restrictions seem related to the purchase of the software. There does not seem to be specific restrictions on who can use it once purchased so long as it is not re-sold or used for business purposes.

Who can use it is covered by

"Can I resell or transfer my Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software?

No. Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software may not be resold or given to others for free."

Business use is perfectly fine

"Can I use my Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software for commercial use?

Yes. You may purchase a Student and Teacher Edition for personal as well as commercial use."

My day job is as a software licensing specialist, generally dealing with small/medium enterprise organisations, part of my licensing qualifications include Adobe's educational options. If you are outside of the license agreement then you might as well be using pirate software. The best way to save some cash is to get on a OU course yourself and buy it legitimately.

How would that be saving money? Thats spending money to save money, meaning you probably pay more in the long run.

I did a short course in Forensic Science - cost £150. It enabled me to buy a lot of software, including Adobe Design Premium for around £250 instead of £1500. So that's just £400 to get PS CS5 which normally sells for £590. Plus there's Dreamweaver, Flash, Acrobat Pro, In Design, Illustratot and Fireworks.

My wife is a school science tech and was able to buy LR3 at the cheaper price, wouldn't matter if she couldn't seeing as my daughter is taking a full time uni course

Lucky old me with them letting me use the pc the software is loaded on

Unfortunately this is in breach of the copyright of the software as stated above so probably not the best thing to admit to in an open forum ;)

It's only showing elements as being on black friday for me :(

I presume the "given for free" clause would be the one where the breach of licence could occur here.

However the meaning of "give for free" could indicate the giving of something on a permanent basis rather than "allowing to use".

For example I might allow someone to use my camera and not charge them but that would be VERY different to me "giving it to them for free" which I would not be so inclined to do ;)

ps I notice it's £125 at play.com
