I've been browsing around Lightroom sites today trying to solve an "issue" (we always used to call them problems.....) and discovered that....

Fanfare...............Lightroom 3 will have lens corrections built in.

Oh, right....you already knew that? Oh well!

sorry for being lazy and ignorant but just to save me googling and also to get a better answer! my main PROBLEM is ''what is lens correction built in''? is it the same as image stabilisation?

No!:D

no - it's correction for things like distortion caused by ultra wide angle lenses. Image stabilisation - VR in Nikon speak - is done with the lens - allowing slower shutter speeds than normally expected for a given focal length.

It mainly to help correct distortion caused by using wide lens. It sometimes distorts the images making straight lens, bend.

HTH

Lens correction was the only reason I still had DxO on my PC. When using a wide-angle lens the distortion can do horrible things to people's body shapes. Women tend to find the effect exceptionally objectionable (does my bum look big at this focal length?). At last I can dump it when LR3RC appears.

I've begun to notice also that on the most badly affected images not only is the horizon curved, the whole image is literally barrel-shaped. Its as if the ribs of the barrel are almost visible!

Obsessive? Moi?
