I have recently acquired a copy of Lightroom 3 as an upgrade from version 2 because I've been hearing such good things about how useful it is and how easy it is to get a workflow for processing multiple images.

At the moment though I have no real clue about how to get the best out of the software so I was thinking about buying a book that I could take on holiday with me in 3 weeks and slowly read through it so when I get back off holiday I can hit the ground running and know what I should be doing with it.

Having done a quick search I was thinking of getting this book that is £17 on Amazon. I thought as it covers CS5 as well it'll probably cover how to use the 2 pieces of software together to best effect.

Anyone read this book or have any good suggestions as to what else I should consider?

Anyone got a book they've already read and would consider selling on? (If the answer to this is yes then I'll happily create a wanted thread if it helps to stick with the rules of the classified section)

Have you got an iphone or ipod touch?

There are loads of video podcasts with tutorials on Lightroom. I find that a mmuch better method of learning then reading a book.

i used photowalkthrough podcasts to teach me, and thats free :)

Rob - would you mind letting us know how you get on with this book? I'm looking for something that bridges both LR3 and PS5 as well so would be interested in whether you find it useful - any feedback would be great.

Cheers,
Just.

I think.. and I really mean it.

Spend 2 evening it Lightroom.
Go through every option.
It is a very intuitive software and you might have more fun discovering it yourself!

I just got Martin Evening's book and it is superb. I prefer his style to Kelby but that is a personal thing

I have the Martin Evening book, its very approachable.

Another fan or Monsieur Evening here, although I haven't read his LR book, just the PS one. As Grumps says, I find his style my easier to cope with than Kelby.

I've not fully decided which book I'll get but whichever one it is I'll let you know how I get on with it.

I'm on holiday from 29th Sept to 6th Oct so I'll read it during that week then hopefully in the following week I'll get to try the theory in practice then I'll give a report on how competent I am with LR3.

Cheers Rob, much appreciated.

I've got Martin Evening's CS5 and LR3 books, both really good but are a bit chunky for quickly referencing anything - and there's little in the way of workflow between the two apps.

Rob,

I have an unopened LR1 book here, its only the bells and whistles that have changed but I too would be interested in that book. Seems ideal being CS5 and LR3. I have just upgraded to both (don't you just love student discounts!)
