Lightroom 3 soft and bright ?

Hi chaps ... very new to L/Room and am just attempting to view files to sort them ready for import, I had already viewed these images in Photoshop and thought that there was some variance ... now I'm pretty sure that when I opened the file in Camera Raw I turned all the settings to zero before opening and, with my limited knowledge, have not applied any adjustments in LR3 but as you can see the difference in these two previews is dramatic ... what am I doing wrong please ?

One issue may be that in Lightroom (at least up to version 3...not yet very familiar with v4) having everything set to zero for a Raw file isn't actually the default conversion.

Assuming that in photoshop you're using a broadly equivalent version of Camera Raw (the raw conversion bit of PS), then with the same settings in both you will get identical files.

Thanks Mark ... this is where my ignorance of Lightroom (3) comes in ... I am in the 'Import' dialogue/module whatever it's called of Lroom I cannot find where the default import settings are, if any.

If you're only in the Import dialog I don't think Lightroom will have applied any settings at all - it will be using the preview stored in the raw file (created by the camera). I could be wrong . When you load in PS it will almost certainly generate it's own preview (what Lightroom does AFTER import).
