hello,i am hoping someone can help me!i have downloaded 2 cf cards from different cameras and all the images have come up as offline ore missing.i have checked the import settings and they are set to copy.can i check any settings?.also have i lost all my images? or can i find them?praying someone can help!!! many thanks in advance.

Haddock, I find it's easier to set up a folder (with sub folder within if needed) on my hard drive, drag images off the card to the folder then import that folder using the import button. Then, I can just add images to the folder and press import (making sure I select that destination folder) and LR will just update the thumbnails and the album content.
hello and thanks for getting back to me.i am still having problems with this.i am using a mac and when i click on the ? it gives me a list of images but i still can,t get them in a useable state.after coming from elements i am begining to wonder if this was a waste of money.it wont even let me export them to somwhere as they are offline!!i am sorry if i come across as useless but this is really getting to me.why is it so difficult compared to elements?as a novice i might need some mothering!!!! any more help advice from you would be much appreciated.
Lightroom is far from a waste of money - best there is. Just read the manual and import as you are supposed to - I've never had any problems. Do you still have the images on the cards? Try a search for the file names on the HD. F1 within LR gives you a LOT of help too.

Are you still trying to find the images (you mention the '?') - if so, I think you hold ALT and the drop-down menu will ask you to locate missing folders. Then it's just a case of locating them on the HD and they'll link to the catalogue.

It sounds like the files were imported at their current location rather than copied and imported.
If you still have the files on the cards attach one and see if the appropriate images become available.
If you have since formatted the cards then you might be stuck.
But don't be so quick to knock LR, it is an amazing program. It was built from the ground up though so is very different to PS/Elements etc but for good reason.
