Lightroom 3 message states file is missing or offline

Hi

I imported some images into lightroom 3 via the camera. After the import I formated my memory card as I had so many photo's on it from previous session. Closed Lightroom 3 and re-opened much later to edit them. Now I'm getting the the message 'The file named "DSC_1085.JPG" is offline or missing. The images are there kind of. They are very blocky. Like, an old spectrum 128 game. :bang:

My guess is that I've done something I shouldn't have and now that I've formated my memory card there's know way of recovering the images which is a sickner.

Can anyone tell me what I may of done so it can't happen again.

Did you copy the images to a new location,or were you just working from the files on the card? If it's the latter and you've deleted them then the only hope is that running some recovery software on the card will find them.
 
No idea what you have done but would advise you copy your photos from card to your hard drive.

Check they are all worth keeping, save them to at least another couple of backup systems, then put them into Lightroom.

If you search on here there are umpteen threads on recovering photos from cards.
 
It means the computer can't find them where it thinks they should be.

1) you've renamed the folder outside of lightroom
2) you added them without moving them from the memory card
3) they're on an external hard drive that isn't plugged in.
4) you've deleted them (look in recycle bin or trash)

If you've not used the camera much, try recovery software.
 
Sounds like LR can't see the images any more suggesting they haven't been copied across to the pc.
Don't reuse the card or you'll overwrite the pics, if all you have done is format they should be easy enough to recover, I've recovered pics a few times for friends.

I downloaded Sandisk sd recover dulux 4 and it found all the files. But now to save it they want me to buy of course. Why wouldn't they. Anyway havn't the cash...

So are there any free SD recovery programs that anyone can suggest.
