Ey up everyone:)

Thinking of purchasing Lightroom 3 having read good things about it. Should I download the trial version first from the Adobe website? Will I get bombarded with junk mail/spam?

http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshoplightroom/

Also, whats the best price for it, Adobe website have it for £232:eek: Amazon is currently £180. Not cheap:'(

Just give the trial version a try first - dont worry you should not get spammed.

My advice would be to try to find some simple tutorials to walk you through the product.

I use it daily, I love it.

You should download the trial - I don't think you'll have any spam problems - £180 is a very good price - it's worth it's weight in gold! It'll save you hours of processing time - once you get to know it.

Yes if you have a child at scholl/college/uni, the student version (which is now able to be used commercially) is the way to go :)

 for LightRoom.

Just a word of caution with the Students' version, it will not be possible to upgrade it should you decide to get version 4, once that's out.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

How long does the trial version last?

Not according to Adobe - Link

Can Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software be upgraded?

An Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software product can be upgraded to a commercial version when that person is no longer a student and/or teacher.

Interesting

I stand corrected :)

When I first bought LR (back in early 2008), I got the student version; when LR2 came out I wasn't able to upgrade to the newer one due to the limitation I've mentioned. I guess Adobe may have changed their policy on this matter.

Don't mean to Hijack this thread but picking up on the suggestion of the student edition, does this only work for the student that applies or for example: if a friend or family member was to apply as a student, could someone else use the serial number..?

Practically? Yes.

Morally and legally? No.

what are you suggesting exactly?

Adobe sells it for 230£ IMO its just crazy money for a bit of software, personally dont see any problems when sth gets "stolen" from the thieves.:| but its just my personal opinion.

Would you apply that logic to anything you value if that gets stolen?

 No, you can call me a 2faced, but if you think paying 230£ for L3 is justified...well its your problem.;)

You clearly have no understanding of the costs involved in software development, particularly in specialist areas. £200 is cheap compared to some software I deal with. It's not crazy money, it's more than you wish to pay.

If you think it's too expensive, don't buy it or use it. To use an unlicensed copy without paying for it is a violation of the copyright (of course, I would be interested to hear anyone on this forum take the stance that they don't care about copyright. Please do that, as I think double standards are excellent).

I have been using the RAW converter supplied with my camera for over two years as I couldn't justify lightroom until now. My copy LR3 turned up at work today. Not educational, full thing, as I'm not in education.

It's theft and can be reported as such!

Don't start calling people names, you states you opinions others disagreed....end of.

Please everyone also be aware we dont condone talk of piracy or way/means to perform such acts :)

I think the original question has been answered so closing this before anyone milk is spilt.
