Yes
I have installed the LR3 beta version, but it is so incredibly slow that when I initiate an action, I can go get a cup of coffee and by the time I get back it could be performed (if I'm lucky).

Is this a result of it being a beta version, or should I clear more space on my HD?

Just downloaded beta 2 on the mac and its the same speed as LR2.6 for me. Oh and I've posted a thread about transferring all your lovely keywords from LR2 to LR3 if anyone is interested :)

No idea what my computer specs (????) are, let alone how I would be able to find out :shrug:

If you are running Windows go to Control Panel and then System - on the front page of system it should show the computers speed, processor and RAM. If not click each tab till you find DEVICES and click on that. You can then click on each type of device and see what it is.

If you are running MacOS go to the APPLE icon and then click ABOUT THIS MAC then MORE INFO and the same information is there too.

That may well be the reason. I take it it's a single core processor? Combine tht with 1gb of memory and you will definately have slow lightroom.

LIGHTROOM 3 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Windows

* Intel® Pentium® 4 processor or equivalent
* Microsoft® Windows® 7
* Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise (certified for 32-bit and 64-bit editions), or Windows XP with Service Pack 3
* 2GB of RAM
* 1GB of available hard-disk space
* 1,024x768 display
* CD-ROM drive

I actually concur with OP - my LR 2.6 is much faster than LR3b2. That is on dual core CPU 4GB of RAM and Vista 64 (and LR2 catalog being much much larger than LR3b2).

However, after using it for sometime, I think that slowdown is caused mostly by localized editing - if I don't use it it is as fast as LR2.6. Also the new fancy import dialog is dog slow compared to the old one - it takes time to appear and then scans the data sources (disks, cards). I really don's see why they have to change what was working frankly quite well and fast (may be it's just me though)...

I'm about to try it on my Samsung NC10 and i'm worried.

As in a netbook with a 1024x600 odd screen? If so, don't bother. There is not enough screen estate to make any use of it and the atom with 1gb will really chug.
