If you like using iPhoto features such as faces and places etc you will not find Lightroom as good, but when it comes to processing the images Lightroom is much better.
I only really use iPhoto to store the images taken on my iPhone.
the thing i love about iphoto that lightroom does not do is the 'send to postcard' or silly little things like that , i miss that on lightroom so end up using both !
If you have a Mac you should seriously consider Apple Aperture 3. It has got the same level of integration that iPhoto has in EVERY application, and for RAW it is absolutely fantastic. All metadata is searchable through spotlight etc...
Also when using Aperture you can make your library show up in iPhoto is you want to do that 'send to postcard' business, so no need to export and create duplicate or anything like that
When you buy through the OSX App Store it is only £45 as well which is an absolute bargain for the Pro product.
