Hey everyone,

Just a quick question. Is a library in Lightroom the same on XP as it is on OS X?

For example, if I create a Lightroom 2 library in Mac OS X but want to continue my library at a later date in Windows XP (for example), could I just copy the library across? Do they use the same file system/structure?

If not, would I be able to export photographs including changes across operating systems and continue using the library?

Thanks in advance. :)

Simple answer YES. But you have to have the images in the same location for each computer else you'll get the dreaded "?" on the images. OK you can update the database by telling it where the images are on the new computer, but then you'll have to update the database when you change back.

Thanks for your response, much appreciated.

Cool. So long as if I start in Mac now, and want to transfer my library to a PC this is possible without losing the structure.

Will Lightroom keep the processing changes I've made when changing operating systems? Hopefully it's a straightforward transfer.

Thanks.

Yes, to both.

Easiest way to transfer is to export as a catalog, then reimport on the new machine.

Or just copy the lrcat file across, open it with LR and then point it at the missing files. Saves all the that export and import malarky!

Thank you both very much for your help, much appreciated.

Cheers! :)
