I have just created a triptych with nice borders and some overlay text. I was under the impression that it could be saved as a jpeg if it is to be printed by a professional company. However I cannot seem to find any option for this within lightroom. i am obviously doing something wrong or looking in the wrong place for the command. could somebody point the way please? Thanks for any help.

That's probably because it's genuinely confusing - you'll find it under Print to Jpeg (i.e. in place of your printer)

It's one of the few things about LR that I just don't find intuitive at all.

Well thats what I thought I had read in an online tutorial, however all I can seem to get is either print to Epson rx520 or the other choice is Adobe PDF.
:thinking::thinking:
Doh!! Cheers Mark I found it :thumbs::thumbs:

Simply export to file as a Jpeg, or am I simplifying something that is far more complicated???

No i usualy complicate things that are far more simple :naughty::naughty: Cheers :thumbs:

I am confused at what you're confused about and at what markrichardson states too!

Saving a file from within LR is very straightforward, simply;
  1. Select the file or files you want to export
  2. Select File>Export
  3. At the top of the window that opens, make sure you are exporting to Files on Disc, then select the location to save your files, set the jpg output size and quality, and press the Export button.
Not sure what's confusing about that?

Well MusicMan my reply to candlestick was my humour. What I had overlooked on the layout engine panel was the option to change from print to printer, to print to JPEG file. I did try your method but it did not save the Triptych layout as a JPEG file, it saves it as three individual images which is not what I wanted. Doing it the other way works fine :thumbs: Btw nothing in life is simple when you are doing things for the first time :D

I think the confusion was over the fact that you were working in the 'print module' in Lightroom which I don't think many people use.
I for one didn't know you could do layouts and save them to jpeg, so something handy learnt for me today :)

Doing layouts for printing in Lightroom is pretty limited - mostly just a workaround really. If you want the photos to be in a linear pattern and all the same size you can probably manage it. Otherwise it's over to PS or similar.

u8myufo - Glad you found the Print to Jpeg option! I suspect that's something that will change in LR3!

I would not say it is that limited - you can do pretty much whatever you want and create individual cells in their individual position. However, I do agree the interface and easyness of doing so leaves something to be desired ;-)...

I would disagree actually, a lot of photographers I know print from LR directly. I find the LR printing a bit better and simpler in this respect (once you get to know it). Personally, I have setup templates for every paper/photo layout/printer combination that I use and printing from those is a matter of selecting the photo(s) and then the template in print module and clicking Print button (no need to setup anything really).

Thanks all for your help anyway :thumbs:
