Adobe has made Lightroom 2.0 available for public beta. The software, that offers a series of enhancements, is at a very early stage and the company recommends its use only for "kicking the tires," and providing feedback about the new features. These include multiple monitor support, the ability to make localized corrections and improved organizational tools.

From DPReview : More...

I downloaded it without any problems.

I'm looking forward to the multi monitor support, but really hope on the release version they let you got straight to older versions of photoshop, rather than just CS3, £600 (plus however much they charge for Lightroom) is going to be expensive, for something that I'll probably use even less with their new features in Lightroom 2...

Don't forget guys this is a Public Beta, and may change ( as did the first beta, several times ) so if you are using Lightroom already, use this as an evaluation copy and don't commit anything important to it.

Love the dual monitor support, plus the local adjustment tools.

What's the dual monitor support like? I'm currently ummmming and arrrring between buying lightroom or aperture. Aperture currently has way better multimonitor support and they now have dodge and burn built into 2.1

multiple monitors works well as far as I can tell. Normal lightroom setup on one monitor then the second display can be used in a number of different picture views.

Multimonitor you say....think Ill have to have a go with this in a bit :) Should make working a lot easier if it works as I hope it does!

LR has this new localsied area adjustment tool. Dodge, burn , saturation, tint,

Check out Ian Lyons site for a fairly well documented overview

Yes you can, even LR 1.3 does that. You simple set up the alternative editor in preferences

Edit> Preferences> External Editor. Then set up whatever version of PS you have as the alternative. In fact it can be any other editor, Elements Picassa whatever

Just downloaded it for a play. Made a copy of my main catalogue to load into it, and it wont let me :(

i was just reading that this is because its a testing version and they don't suggest you use it for anything other than that. But when they release the full version you will be able to.

Yeah I read that too.

I thought the easiest way round it would be to work on a copy of the catalogue, thus playing safe, but it wont even let me do that :(

Beta. Its not yet designed to work with 1.0 catalogues. Maybe its a security thing so that people don't convert their work accidently and then get stuck with an unfinished program.

Different library structure is probably the reason. It's probably down to the addition fields in the database

Import - Lightroom 2.0 now supports images with dimensions up to 30,000 pixels on the longest side. So, you can import the panoramas and stitched images that Lightroom 1.0 blocked.

I've been waiting for that for ages
