:lol: That would be funny except, I'm not sure any lighting strike would be capable of cutting your connection for you, but then being considerate enough to hit submit for you afterwards ;)

lightning travels about 1000' to get from the cloud to ground (ok it goes the other way but work with me here)
you plan to switch off your router
that will open a gap of about 5mm

Not quite, the part of the mains that goes to your router will never be the path of least resistance. The bigger issue is lightning striking the phone line and killing anything plugged into it.
 
Makes me glad that I am cable for everything................lucky me eh:lol:
