Has anyone got any experience of any of the options for connecting an iPod Nano 7th gen. to a dock using any of the available adaptors? I'm not after video transfer, just audio and power so I can use it on a Sony dock and in my car.

As I understand it, there's some clever circuitry in the genuine Apple ones which is what makes them more expensive (nice of Apple to change things and force users to spend more...), do any of the cheaper alternatives work properly (and fit properly!)?

I have 4 cheap adapters off eBay. All work perfectly with my iPhone 5.

As far as I'm aware, the Apple cable features a Digital-to-Analogue (DAC) converter, so whilst a cheap cable may well work, if it has poor DAC circuitry, it may affect sound quality.

Just something to be aware of.

Thanks for the answers. It's mainly for connecting an iPod Nano (7th gen) to my car (which has a fairly high end ICE system fitted) so sound quality is fairly important! If I can find a cheapy cable in town, I'll give it a try, then if it doesn't work I can just return it for a refund and buy a real one. It needs to be a cable rather than the adaptor so I can watch movies in the bath with the sound coming through the dock - not got a telly/DVD player in the bathroom (yet!)...
