Being new to the world of photography I have only got a very basic kit, which does not include lighting, and I have been wondering, even if only as a temporary measure, could I use hologen tripod lights which they use on building sites?

Also while on the subject of lighting. When taking a photo where extra lighting is needed, do I shine the lights directly on the object I am taking a photo of?

Sorry about these novice type questions :embarrassed::embarrassed:

All the best

Hi Mickey!

I actually do have a set of those and use them quite often. You just want to make sure the pics are white balanced, those lights tend to be very very orange.

As for where to put them, it depends on what your shooting........????

I bought a couple of those last year, I was new to my camera as well and so was caught out by the deep orange glow in my pics!:embarrassed:

Tbh, I guess it depends what you want to photograph. If youre shooting a model she well get very hot, very quickly, the make-up will 'melt' and she will definatelycomplain about the bright light in her face... at least thats how it was for me!
