Can someone suggest the best way to light a product type shot but without using any proper lighting gear? I don't currently own any flashes, softboxes, lights etc other than what can be found around the normal house. I don't usually do this type of photography but I have been asked by a family member to see if I can get so ok product shots that they can use online. I know I want get anything of very good quality but any advice appreciated.

Is there a nice big window you can shoot near? I have oftened use windows along with reflectors, shower curtains and mirrors and the like.

How big are the products and what are they made off?

There is a pretty big window at the front of the house but not much sun comes in that side.
I have a white reflector but that's it.

The products are craft pieces, felt I think, and are about maybe the size of a magazine but a bit thicker.

you could make yourself a light-box out of a cardboard box and white/black paper, or get a maplin portable studio Clicky for £15 and use desk lights, depending how big the product is

^^^

Natural light through a window to give you direction, balanced with a reflector for fill, and if you really want to splash out £10-£20's worth of perspex off-cuts from your local signwriter to act asa base/platform.

Window light, north facing or overcast day (no direct sun), reflector

Thanks for the comments. I will give it a go and see what I get.

I did this a while back, here below is a diagram I made ages ago for my blog

(sorry quality is low as I copied and pasted it)

The lamps could be some you have at home or I got some from Ikea for a few pounds
