Hello!

I have been asked to photograph the Philip Treacy (hat maker) look book on the 23rd and 24th September. I am looking for a lighting technician in London to help me with this. It is two days work and you will need some equipment but I will pay you of course.

I am totally new to studio lighting so I need someone who knows how to light objects. The hats will be on mannequin heads not on models so it is more still life photography.

If this day goes well it may well lead to other work with myself. If you can email me at kurtisslloyd@hotmail.com that would be fantastic.

I have been given these instructions so it would be up to you to follow them:

4ft octa (I have this)

1 Boom

1 Grey Background (It will be shot in the Philip Treacy studio)

1 4ft strip Soft box

2 500 monoblocks

1 small table (provided)

2 peices of large black card

Set the back ground up, then on the floor pointing up put the 500 with strip to create a light to dark graduation

then set up your table and use a bit of the background paper on it to create a clean surface on the table top

set up ypour boom above and in front of your subject ,test to see where the light works best , the ratio of light is subjective so get a nice point behind your subject at say f 8 then light your hat at either a stop above or below depending on what feel you want if you want the hat to glow make the hat a stop brighter .then place the 2 black cards either side of your subject to create contrast . hope this helps , to be honest theres lots of ways to do it but this is a simple and effective way ,maybe do this and then try something a bit more dramatic and have some fun with it !

here is a photo of what I need the hats and small bags to look like:

Please get in touch if you feel you are able to do this, or let me know where I may find someone.

all the best

What you actually need is a photographer, not a lighting technician. It's a pretty simple job for anyone who knows anything about studio photography.

Or additionally take your camera, stick it on a tripod, and charge 1 - 2 days commercial rate

David,
Be realistic, maybe I shouldn't say this as I may be offering you some work:) but it's worth at least £250 per day, not £300 for 2 days.
Didn't know you still did this sort of work, thought it was all your lighting repairs and and bulbs and things these days...

Hi Garry, i still light jobs, not much work around these days. keep in touch. David
