Lighting supplier

They seem to have a good selection and may be worth a visit in Leicester. Need to compare price and especially quality though.

Just had a look at the stuff and I am not an expert but their COREFLASH CF-D300 looks like a certain other company's light. Not a problem at all though, certainly worth a look but the price is at a point where you might well get a brand that people have heard of for a similar price.

What is your budget? What is your subject? Do you have anything already?

Hi Darren, Don't have any lighting yet and looking at Lencarta, looking to do portraits and possible on location family/childrens stuff in the future, ie taking a village hall or similar.

Budget not overly important within reason, quality, reliability, after sales service and ease of operation the main considerations. Looking to take two, maybe three lights plus accessories and perhaps BG stands.

One reason I was considering this company is that I get a 15% discount from the club I am a member of and they are geographically convenient.

You don't have your location but if you are in the north west then we are running a NW studio/model meet where you can see a number of alternatives in use.

I personally like the Lencarta kit and their technical support person is a member on here so you can get answers quickly :)

Seriously if you are looking at that then I would personally look at this:

SmartFlash 3-head Softbox/umbrella Kit with Background System (Order code FLA018BG) @ £574.85

It is basically everything you need in one package but I would actually swap a few things. Lencarta allow you to swap like-for-like items so long as they are like for like. With that in mind I would remove:

2 x 85cm x 85cm Softbox SOF005 (- £159.90)

and add

1 x 120cm FOLDING octobox (+ £129.95)
1 x 60x90cm FOLDING softbox (+ £89.95)

This is going to put the price up by another £60 making it £634.85 but if you are taking the setup to different locations then packing up the normal softboxes is a right pain in the £$%£. Plus the large octobox is ideal for full length shots and the smaller softboxes that come as standard are not ideal for this.

I would also be tempted to swap the battery powered trigger for the mains powered trigger which is a NO COST option.

Darren, thanks for that, just the sort of info I wanted, very helpful. I am situated in the Midlands (will update my profile). Thanks for the invite but not sure I can get up north in the near future though, what date is the meet and where.

Cheers

A week on Saturday, there is a link in my sig. Its near Manchester.

Company looks fine, healthy company wth steadily increasing turnover, fixed assets and stock so I've no doubt about them being legit (they've got their company number and name mixed up with another of their companies but it just looks like a typo).

If you can get 15% off then you can get this for £340! or this for less than £300!

There's certainly some good deals to be had there! :D

Darren, thanks for the invite but Saturdays are out due to other commitments.

Graham, agree that 3 head kit certainly looks attractive, maybe I will find time to go and have a look. I will say, the pro who runs the studio where the club is, is buying this companies products for the studio, so that in itself maybe some kind of recommendation.

Thanks

jeff

Used them tons of time for little bits and pieces and good solid company to buy from. They are usually at Focus at NEC in March too.

For things like flash mods etc they are great.

:)

Happy to recommend too.

Esp their parabolic umbrellas in 7mm shaft.

I bought a few bits from them at Focus 2010 at NEC they delivered them in totally inadequate packaging. One item was a large reflector, as the packaging was crap the case/cover was split and the reflector too.

Despite numerous phone calls and them promising to send a new one it never happened.

I will never use them again.

I think you have to speak as you find with these things, some people are bound to have better experiences than others. I know that some people have had bad experiences, personally I've only ever bought from them once and I was very happy with their service.

They tend to sell 'good value' accessories and unbranded flash heads. They seem to change their suppliers quite often but that shouldn't be a problem unless you need repairs in the future.
