Just bought some studio lights from ebay, they don't come with any stands though. What would the best stands for me to get? Are the ones from 7dayshop anygood?

Thanks

no for studio lights you need heavier weight stands

I hear good things about lencarta stands (though I may have broken one) Manfrotto do a nice line of stands too.

Elemental offers a range of stands at reasonable prices.

check out calumet branded ones, they're usually rebadged manfrotto or similar, good stuff :) If you have a calumet student card, 20% off too :)

lencarta and elemental both do some non air cushioned ones for about £25 each too iirc.

Newbie question strikes again.. how is a stand 'air cushioned'? If you accidentally open a clamp and let a section fall freely, it will dampen the fall by the stand acting like a pneumatic cylinder?

I haven't seen the need for wheels so far, at least my elinchrome D-Lites with softboxes are light enough to just lift & move the stand with one hand.

yep, that is exactly what air cushioned is. Just a bit of safety, but not 100% essential imo, depends what's on it.

Wheels are used for stands in permanent studios just to make life easier. Don't bother with it for a location set really.

Actually they're an important safety feature - someone trips over the wire or walks into the stand and it just moves, instead of falling over.

If buying Calumet branded ones, I would get them from the Calumet shop on Amazon.co.uk as the postage is much cheaper. That's what I did to get one of their super clamps - worked out quite a bit less.
