Hi guys,

At the moment I have two of the Konig light stands but can't help but feel that I need something a little sturdier, they are OK when you are using them with light (pardon the pun) things like umbrellas inside but as soon as you go outside with them or start putting heavier soft boxes (Flash ones or lastolite ones) they start to sway a little too much for my liking when they have my expensive speedlights on the back.

So my question is what would you recommend, what do you use?

Portability is something to keep in mind but I don't need them to be the uber small and light ones as I think they will suffer from the same issues.

thanks in advance,

David

Lowel do a really good rather large on that gives good height and also features a "lazy leg" Don't laugh :) it's one that you can use on a slope and even stairs.

i was looking at stands recently, will be interested to see other peoples recommendations. Can anyone also suggest what bracket/clamp to use to attach an umbrella and a 430exII or YN-460 flash to the stand?

Flash in the Pan does a nice bracket that holds a brolly and has a cold shoe attachment on it??

Have a look at the begining of his Strobist / light gear for sale thread

I really like those Konig stands. Well made and very light and plenty big enough. Slightly smaller foot print means there's less leg for kids to fall over.

My Interfit stands (I think that's what they are - few years old now) are quite a lot bigger but I don't think anything will stop a brolly blowing over outside without weighting it down with a bag or something. Or guy ropes :)

I use sandbags hung on the base for extra stability when necessary. Heavy to carry around though...

I use diving weighs which are little bags full of lead shot. Look neat as well as doing the job. Or I go with a mate so we can do a re-enactment of Mary Poppins.

Where do you get these from?

Diving shops funnily enough :)

Google for your local dive shop/dive centre and ask for the 2kg shot weights to go in a BCD, they will know what you are on about :)

Thanks, will do. Any idea od cost?

I prefer voice activated light stands with their auto adjustment feature, remote control repositioning and their ability to increase tension automatically in a gust of wind. They are usually pretty cheap to 'rent' but boy are they heavy :)

Is that the MrsDiddyDave light stands or the MateofDiddyDave light stands?

I just got a pair of Konig stands for £22 all in, they seem pretty good and using them with the umbrella adapter from FitP (thread linked above).
