And not "Super" in a good way... :(

Now that I've got your attention, I'm hoping some of you may be able to shed some light on on my issues and illuminate a path toward fixing them please :)

Basically, I'm trying to source the cheapest "all-rounder" lighting kit possible by way of buying everything from ebay.

So far I've guesstimated I'll need a minimum of a FLASH , LIGHT STAND , FLASH/UMBRELLA HOLDER , SOFTBOX , and REMOTE FLASH TRIGGER then X2 everything if I want to get really creative.

Will the above kit combined be enough to start me off and will it actually be an improvement over the current camera mounted flash? Any thoughts on the whole idea would be appreciated.

Also, while you're all here, I spotted THIS on my (eBay) travels and I was just wondering if someone would kindly explain (to a total novice) how it would be activated by my Fuji HS20 as I can't find anywhere on the camera for the "sync cord" to go and I'm not sure if the part where it says "triggered by a flash" means what (or works like) I think it does. Again, any general thoughts or advice on this flash would be appreciated.

As indicated, I'm a total novice with most things photographic so any advice is greatly received and appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Hi mate,

Can't offer much advice on this. However... flash strobe your looking at, it can be triggered through 'sync cord'. If you look on at the picture of it, you can see where the 'jack' plugins. So with the wireless trigger set you've listed above you'll be fine. :)

Thanks for the reply,

ahh cool, might be worth looking at then. should just need an additional wireless receiver then and id be able to run both flashes?

correct!

However... you might be able to use the 'slave function' instead meaning no need for another receiver (not sure if the flashes you've picked have that option?), and this means when one flash fires (the flash which was the wireless receiver), it will set off the other flash.
I'm off to bed now, but if no-one get's back to you by morning I shall double check for you matey and let you know. I'll also give you some hints about the equipment you've picked out (I've purchased similar!).
Speak soon.

right, im with you now, had read something about this "slave function" but wasnt 100% sure how it worked (it sounded too much like magic and sorcery to be real lol)
no worries, thanks again for the reply, speak soon :)

Do these cheap old flashes fire off a wireless trigger like the RF602, and can you control the power output manually on the flash? I could do with another for backgrounds. I use the RF602's with a 5D and Yongnuo 560 at the moment, and they work fine for me.

I got a 24" EZ-Fold Softbox off Amazon for £60ish - again hardly breath-taking build quality but works well and doesn't take long to put up/take down once you get the hang of it. Got a dirt-cheap light stand for a tenner and that's fine, I splay the legs wide and keep the weight of the softbox directly over one of the legs to keep it stable.

I certainly hope so as I'm intending to fire them off the 602, can't change the power on them tho other than the zoom bit.

If you are looking for a cheap flash with manual control and optical trigger, look afor yong nuo flashes. I have 3, can't complain
