I am looking for some advice on lighting for my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel portraits, indoors. I have 2 types, Blenheim (brown and white) and Tricolour (Predominantly Black with white and tan).
I have taken many shots over the years and whilst I have been reasonably happy with some of the results, I think I can do better with improved lighting.
The room is quite small with a low (8') white ceiling. There's about 8' width and the shooting distance is around 6' I realise this is very cramped, but I have to make do.
I have a 550EX and 580EX flashgun and 7D and 60D so can trigger these lights wirelessly.
How best can I control the lighting? Do I use on flash diffusers like the ezybox or shoot through umbrellas? I've read that 33" umbrellas can result in light spill, but think 40"+ would be too big in such a confined space. I've also read that on-flash diffusers need wireless triggers, but if I reverse my flash units so that the receiver is facing the camera, could I still use the camera to control the flash?
Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Our pets are with us for such a short time and I would really like to get more images that do them justice.
Thank you.
