Lighting full length portraits

What is the best way to light a full length portrait in a studio environment. I have a few flashguns so hoping to be told that I can use something compatible with them.

There's no best way, though you don't need anything special. Most folks would probably use something like a 100cm softbox or brolly for starters.

I Have tried with a brolly but don't seem to get even light from top to bottom, and didn't think a 100cm soft box would be much different. I thought I might need a long soft box or something but unsure if they can be powered by flashguns. It is more than likely user error on my part.

It could be power settings on your flashgun is set too low or for a narrow beam? I suppose how you positioning the light towards model will be playing a big factor?

I was looking at one of these or similar, ok this is for a studio light but you get the jist.
